Westland Whirlwind
/ Sikorsky H19
Below is a history of the stages that go into the production of the kit.
We are presently at the “plug” stage, with the mould being made in the next couple weeks, if you would like a bare fuselage only without
any scale parts, woodwork, windows or undercarriage then orders are currently being taken.
The supplied woodwork will be designed for the builder to fit modified T Rex 600 mechanics.
Below is a photo of the finished plug.
The fuselage is modelled at a scale of 1:8.5 which gives fuselage dimensions of L 1470mm H 350mm and W 209mm and rotor diameter
of approx 1500mm
The fuselage is of a series 2 machine (mid 1950’s onwards) meaning marques such as the Sikorsky H-19 B, Westland HAS5 & 7,
Queens flight HCC 8 as well as the civilian S 55 series 2 can all be modelled.
These all had a slightly drooped tail compared to the series 1 to allow for greater main blade deflection and were all fitted with radial
piston engines.
Here’s the first stage of the moulding process, the creation of the mould.
Then the two halves of the mould are layed up with fibreglass
and here’s the first fuselage out of the mould, shown with the cabin “plug” in place, the cabin
and nose section will be completed in the next couple of days.

Oil filler cap
Tail skid.
We had an email from a customer in Switzerland who just couldn’t wait for the finished kit and so we supplied him with a bare fuselage.
He is making rapid progress ...............
The two woodwork options.........
the first with mounting platform for the T Rex mechanics
and the second without, allowing the builder to fit
their own choice of mechanics.
